
Katherine Purvis is a London-based journalist and editor, with a special interest in covering the environment and sustainability, equality and human stories.
She has been on staff at the Guardian since late 2017, working as a digital producer as well as supporting Data and Community teams on data-led and community-focused journalism.
Previously, she was the UK editor of The Third Pole, focusing on Asia’s water crisis. As a freelance writer and editor, she has worked extensively across many Guardian sections, including the Global Development Professionals Network, and the Teachers, Higher Education and Social Care networks. She has also reported for the Telegraph’s Small Business Connect, and Community Care.
Katherine started her journalism career as the assistant editor for the Guardian’s Live Better Challenge, after various internships and work experience placements at the Northern Echo, the Kentish Express, Gateway to Africa, the South African, and Smithsonian Magazine.
Away from journalism, Katherine in a keen gardener. She volunteers regularly at a community garden project in south London, and is studying towards the RHS Level 2 Diploma in Horticulture.
